Two more unusual facts about the song Rhapsody In The Rain.
First - There has been found no stereo master for either version of the song, it is believed the multi-track was pulled to do the re-edit/re-sing version with the G rated lyrics. Apparently the revised version was only done in mono and the stereo multi was not used again. Today it appears lost. However the rumor mill says in the late 60s when WCBS FM started playing oldies listeners claim they played Rhapsody In The Rain in stereo, believed to be sourced from an MGM various artists sampler. However no airchecks have been found to prove memories.
Second- The well known sound-a-like label Hit Records of Nashville, TN recorded an excellent sound-alike for the song with pop writer Bobby Russell (Honey, Little Green Apples, etc) on lead vocals. Since they would recut the hits as soon as they were issued to be able to get their copy in the store racks as soon as possible, they recorded the X rated lyrics!
